How should the greenhouse support this crop?

Cucumber leaves and fruit respond quickly to changes in temperature, humidity and radiation. The greenhouse needs enough ventilation and air movement to keep the canopy active while avoiding abrupt drying. Screening can reduce peak radiation, but excessive shading can weaken production and fruit quality.

Because cucumbers grow rapidly, climate mistakes become visible within days. The project must define whether production is seasonal or year-round and size vents, cooling, heating and humidity management for the difficult period rather than the average weather.

What must irrigation control?

Cucumbers have a high and rapidly changing water demand. Short, well-timed irrigation cycles should maintain a stable root zone without prolonged saturation. Drain measurements, substrate water content, EC and plant response show whether timing and dose are correct.

Water treatment and nutrient formulation are based on laboratory analysis. Uniform pressure and dripper delivery are essential because variation quickly produces differences in plant strength and fruit shape. Drain capture and reuse are considered where water value and quality justify the additional control.

What must happen every production day?

Guiding, pruning, fruit removal, scouting and harvesting follow a tight rhythm. Long, mini and snack crops require different plant densities and harvest frequencies. The labour model must therefore be built from the selected crop type and planned weekly volume.

Harvested cucumbers lose value through impact, dehydration and delay. Collection routes, grading, packaging and dispatch should minimize handling time. Crop protection depends on clean entry routines, biological control, fast removal of infected material and consistent scouting.

What determines the investable case?

A commercial plan must connect variety and fruit type to a named sales channel. Price per piece or kilogram, grade tolerances, packaging format, contract rhythm and seasonal competition determine revenue more accurately than a single annual yield figure.
